“By the time I was in my 20s people were saying, ‘You kind of remind us of Elton John,'” Anderson says. Scottish-born singer and pianist Rus Anderson has been performing as an Elton John tribute act since 2009. The Elton John tribute, he says, “just kind of evolved” out of all that.

during 2003 he began working at piano bars and playing with Top 40 groups, grinding away as a working musician. “So since 2017 I’ve had a relationship with Elton’s office, and it’s just kind of taken on a life of its own and got our show noticed as well.”Īnderson did not set out to become an Elton John surrogate, however.Ī performer “since I was a little boy” in Scotland, Anderson played in a number of rock bands playing original material. “But I called back and they were wanting to use me to do a whole bunch of body double-related stuff for videos and photos, fashion, things like that. “Of course that was from (John’s) lawyer, and of course that scared me half to death,” Anderson, 43, says by phone. Now “The Rocket Man Show” - making its metro area debut on April 13 at Detroit’s Fisher Theatre - is one of the top tributes in the world, due in no small part to a call Anderson received in 2017. He and his wife, Somali, have carefully curated and built “The Rocket Man Show” into an authentic replication of John’s shows circa 1973, when his “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” album secured his spot as one of and perhaps THE top pop act in the world. The Scottish-born singer and pianist, who now resides in Clearwater, Fla., has been performing as a John tribute act since 2009.
